Nicholas Johnson’s practice involves ideas around materials, consumerism and other systems within
contemporary western society (such as the everyday interactions with consumerism). The ideas and questions
which form his practice are formed from continued curiosity around the didactic interactions one may have with
these large societal systems. Johnson draws upon these interactions as well as written works to contextualize
these ideas, with texts like “The Grapes of Wrath” (by John Steinbeck) or “Are South African Diamonds Worth
Their Cost?” (by Albert V. Alexander). Johnson has previously exhibited at galleries like Gallery 1855, ACE Open
and Praxis Artspace.
